Amazing concrete...

The new Ofunato Civic Cultural Centre and library is a genius display of eccentric forms.

The centre was designed by the Meguro-based studio Chiaki Arai Urban and Architecture Design.  The design was mimicked by the distinctive coastline of the Pacific coast in Ofunato using layer upon layer of contoured concrete. These layers form inverted ‘river valleys’ that rise up above visitors heads, a truly incredible piece of architecture.

The hard edged exterior is the first element you see however it is the interior that really impresses...
